Thinking ahead

#strategy, #foresight #thinking

Here are some good thinking patterns to use in various parts of your life.

Ask yourself these questions before you make a decision:

1. Will it get dirty? If so, how often, and will it be easy to clean?

2. Will it break down easily? If so, how often, and how easy and cheap it will be to repair it?

3. Will it run out of energy quickly? If so, how quickly, and how long it will take to recharge it?

4. Can I count on getting spare parts for it in the future? If so, will those be scarce items, and will they cost more than today?

5. Is there a reasonably big chance that the company producing this thing will go bankrupt in the future? If so, how soon?

6. Is this product continually "developed", for the sake of development only? If so, how frequently?

7. Is there any string attached to this product? If so, can I accept that string at all?

8. Does this product have any part that is not user-replaceable? If so, how long before that crucial part will die?

9. Does this product have any part that requires a repeat purchase? If so, what is the life-time of that part?

10. Is this product designed with Planned Obsolescence hard-wired into its design? If yes, do I really want such a thing in my life?

11. Is the company behind this product an ethical, morally justifiable venture, one with a good reputation?

12. Do I want to be associated with this product or the company behind this product, no matter how good or bad this product is actually?

The list could be endlessly long, but I hope that these dozen examples will be eye-openers for your future endeavors.

Enjoy! :)
